PDGFB Overview

Platelet-derived factor (PDGF) is one of many factors that regulate cell growth and division. Chemically, PDGF is A dimeric glycoprotein formed from two A chains (-AA) or two B chains (-BB) or a combination of AB chains (-AB). In particular, it plays an important role in angiogenesis, the growth of pre-existing blood vessel tissue. Uncontrolled angiogenesis is a characteristic of tumors. Hepatocytes and non-absorbent osteoclasts express PDGF-BB and produce osteoblasts and bones. Platelets, macrophages and mast cells also produce PDGF-BB. At the injured site, PDGF-BB promoted the infiltration of neutrophils and macrophages, played a debridement role, promoted the secretion of new extracellular matrix by fibroblasts, and promoted IGF-1-mediated reepithelialization.
