MMP2 Overview

Matrix metalloproteinase 2(MMP-2), also known as 72kDa type IV collagenase and gelatin A, is encoded by the MMP2 gene in humans. Activation of MMP-2 requires proteolytic processing. MMP-2 plays a role in endometrial rupture, regulation of vascularization and inflammatory response. MMP-2 is involved in many events, such as cancer progression, cancer cell invasion, cell signaling, neovascularization, and lymphangiogenesis. MMP2 gene mutation is associated with Torg-Winchester syndrome, multiple osteolysis, arthritis syndrome, and possibly keloid. In non-cystic fibrotic bronchiectasis, MMP-2 concentrations were elevated in patients infected with Haemophilus influenzae compared to patients with respiratory infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
