LEPR Overview

The leptin receptor (Leptin R), also known as OB-R or CD295, is encoded by the LEPR gene in humans. It functions as a receptor for the adipocyte-specific hormone leptin. Through hypothalamic actions on hunger and energy expenditure, leptin regulates adipose tissue mass upon binding to its receptor. Variants of the leptin receptor have been associated with diabetes mellitus and elevated susceptibility to histolytic amoebic infection.
