HAVCR1 Overview

T-cell immunoglobulin domain mucin domain protein-1 (TIM-1), also known as kidney injury factor-1 (KIM-1) and hepatitis A virus cell receptor 1 (HAVcr1), is a member of the TIM gene family and plays a key role in the regulation of immune cell activity, particularly the host immune response to viral infections.TIM-1 is preferentially expressed in Th2 cells and is a stimulatory molecule for T-cell activation. TIM-1 is also involved in allergic reactions, asthma and transplantation tolerance. In humans, TIM-1 acts as a receptor for the entry of several viruses into cells, including hepatitis A virus, dengue virus, and Ebola virus.
