CCL3 Overview

Chemokine ligand 3 (CCL3), also known as macrophage inflammatory protein 1α (MIP-1α), is a cytokine in the CC chemokine family involved in the acute inflammatory state in polymorphonuclear leukocyte recruitment and activation. The CCL3 gene is located on human chromosome 17, and its cDNAs encode a 92-amino-acid residue precursor protein, which contains a segment of 22 amino acid residue signaling peptide, and cleavage of this precursor protein produces a secreted mature protein. Like other chemokines, CCL3 is monocyte chemotactic. In addition, CCL3 has been reported to have different chemotactic and pro-adhesive effects on T lymphocytes, NK cells, cytotoxic T cells, B cells, basophils, and eosinophils.CCL3 has been identified as a stem cell inhibitor (SCI) that inhibits hematopoietic progenitor cell proliferation both in vitro and in vivo.CCL3, CCL4, and RANTES have been suggested to be inhibitors of CD8+ T cells produce important HIV suppressors.
