ANGPTL4 Overview
Angiopoietin-like protein, also known as angiopoietin-related protein, is structurally related to angiopoietin. In humans, angiopoietin-like protein 4 is a protein encoded by the ANGPTL4 gene. This gene was previously known as ANGPTL2, HFARP, PGAR, or FIAF, but has been renamed ANGPTL4.ANGPTL4 is a member of the angiopoietin-like gene family and encodes a secreted glycosylated protein.ANGPTL4 is highly expressed in adipose tissue. Expression is upregulated in endothelial cells and cardiomyocytes during hypoxia.ANGPTL4 is involved in the regulation of lipid and glucose metabolism, and it has also been implicated in angiogenesis.ANGPTL4 is also expressed in hypoxic human tissues, as well as in a variety of cancers such as liposarcoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, and conventional renal cell carcinoma.
